Battle mission

No not the new Games Workshop Battle missions, but our own missions. Mark and i played a small (1000 point army) battle on his new city boards. I took some pictures during the battle.  The outcome was a draw, which was ok. We both had a random mission chosen from a deck of cards.

Limitation
-No reserve
-NoDeep Strike

Spades: for every table quarter you have a friendly unit, you get two points
Harts: For every table quarter that has no enemy unit you get 1,2,3 or 4 points. (Immobilized Vehicles or worst do not count).
Diamonds: Destroy HQ. 2 points for 1/2. 6 points for full.
Clubs: Surprise

I had Harts, Mark had spades. I misread my mission, claiming 3 quarters. Unfortunately i had an other mission (harts).

4×4 Warhammer 40k battle

Last Wednesday we tried a new form of play. We have used the following experimental rules. They are in dutch and even worse in my own short hand. My conclusion was that it was great fun, but it is time consuming. We played only two rounds in stead of 4.

Aantal punten: 1000 – 1500 pp. Gewone standaard missie legers.

Missie
- 4d3 objectives (1d3 pp.)
- plaatsing objectives voor dat de deployment volgorde bekend wordt.
- Alleen troops mogen een objective pakken. (i.e. de standaard regels
voor het capturen van een objective)

Deployment indeling: 4 kwarten. minimal 18″ afstand. No-mansland 9 ”
cirkel (ie 18″ doorsnee)

Voor deployment gooien.
- Op volgorde, de hoogste wint. Hij kan kiezen eerst of laatste.
- Dit wordt de vaste slagorde.
- Per ronde wordt opnieuw gedobbeld om de ronde volgorde. Dit kan er
dus ook in resulteren dat je 2 maal na elkaar bent.

siege the initiative: Iedereen die niet eerste is, en de winnaar van
de deployment mogen proberen het initiatief te pakken. Als je de
deployment hebt gewonnen, maar hebt gekozen als laatste te gaan mag je
niet proberen het initiatief te pakken.

We spelen maximaal 4 ronden.

NIEUW:
Shooting: Je mag ook op units in cc schieten, uiteraard mag jij niet
betrokken zijn bij de cc.
- Templates. Volgen de normale regels. ie. wie er onder valt is geraakt.
- Andere shooting. Je schiet op de cc (die als een unit telt) hits
worden eerlijk verdeeld. Als er na een eerlijke verdeling hits
overblijven worden deze gerandomized.

Close combat:
Iedereen vecht elke keer een cc fase is aanbeland van een betrokken speler.
Combat resolution: Het totale aantal kills telt. (+ wargear)
Voorbeeld: speler A B en C zijn in CC.
A maakt 1 wound bij speler c
b maakt 1 wound bij speler c
c maakt 2 wounds op speler B
speler c wint, spelers a en b moeten testen. speler a met een -0 en b
met en -2 modifier.
speler a gooit 11 en speler b is fearless en haalt 2 saves
speler a en c doen een initiative test (B is geen party hij heeft verloren.)
speler c gooit een 6 en haalt speler a in. Omdat speler c nog in cc is
met a vind er geen movement plaats.

Playtest Traveler

traveler.jpgLast weekend we played the traveler RPG from mongoose publishing. We played a short adventure with characters who had three career therms. My unfortunate character was fired three times. But the character creation was fun in itself. And the adventure the GM had developed was a little of everything. We will play this type of adventures again.

Good side: Character creation is fun, and you can make choices, but in the end it is up do the dice.

Interesting combat. You do not have wounds as in other RPG’s but you stats go down.

Not so good: Unclear how to progress with the character it seems you get stuck with what you have after character creation. This can be a drag.

Shatterd Hope

It was almost who days after the Acolytes entered the mines when there was a heavy explosion from within the mines. Commisar Nihillus waited another day, just to make sure the inquisition did its job. Only then did he ordered another squad of his men down in to the tunnels.

At the end of the day it was Edwin Yurtz found the remains of the Acolytes. both died in the explosion of the promethius tanks that were stored in the shatters. The Dataslate of Jericus somehow survived the explosion. The reports on the dataslate where short and sounded like they where written under great stress.

It seemed the encountered mutants of all sorts and there was heavy fighting. In the end Jericus left the heavily wounded Cimbria, and went forth to scout ahead. Later investigation by other inquisitors uncovered that there was indeed a new cult blooming in the depts of the mines. And that there were several bullet holes in the prometheus tanks that where probably the cause of the explosion.

Both Jerico and Cimbria where awarded a medal of valor fore there selfish sacrifice to kill the Heretics, and burn the witch, with minimal damage to the industry.

Review Shatterd Hope

We prepared to play the DEMO adventure Shattered Hope as published by Black Industries. We played the game with 3 persons and one was the GM. Bram and Maurice where playing 2 different characters as provided by the booklet. Maurice played with Jericus, and Bram played Cimbria.

Although the adventure was pretty well described, my players managed to get me to improvise. The rules where sufficient to get a feel of playing the game. The adventure was partitioned in three parts.

1)Role playing. The first part was plain old role playing. The checks where a little different but it seemed the players adapted well to there new environment. They knew little about the warhammer 40K universe, but the backgrounds seemed sufficient to play.

2)Tests and dangers.A little slow part. The obsticals were pretty where not so interesting. I would have experted a trap of some sort.

3)Tests and combat. I found the combat rather slow. It took more than 4 rounds to kill one of the mutants. Of course there where only two acolytes. But becouse i have no insight in other monsters, and we dont know how and if the stats of the humans will progress.

We will be playing this game again! See the shattered hope trailer
